I’m alive, and hope the same for everyone else. It’s been a pretty slow year for games and bitsy jams and a pretty static noises year for everything else, and part of that has involved trying to get this project out the door. While I would have loved to share it through itch directly I was simply not ready to jump through the licensing hoops involved. So, for the 5e D&D players and curious onlookers out there, here’s what I’ve been working on: Ultimate Wild Magic! (that’s an affiliate link)
This one was a real labor of love; it’s a set of 13 subclasses for every D&D core class (plus the artificer!) designed to give them access to their own brand of Wild Magic – like the Scrap Savant who builds temporary inventions that explode into bursts of magic, or the Improv Bard that can grab someone else’s spell and (mostly) make it their own – along with a modular Wild Magic table divided up by themes like Flame, Space, and Summoning so you can tailor what kind of weird magical outbursts you get to fit your character. Or just use the whole kitchen sink! Your choice. It has some DM advice for altering magic to make it a little bit more unstable than the fire-and-forget version that 5e favors, and rules for doing the big cultist ritual where they sacrifice an arena of people to open a gate to the Hells and such. It’s 40 pages of the cool stuff I always want to see in my own games, in brief.
This one has been cooking for a long time (and likely would have remained in the oven, slowly desiccating, had Rascal not stepped in to edit and provide several necessary pushes to get it done) and I’m so happy to get it out there. It’s been next on the docket for a long time, and now that it’s here I’m excited to get going with other projects! Index Card RPG, Fabula Ultima, and original stuff, both digital and not are all on the horizon.
Happy new year again! Let’s make some games in 2026!
